Miniature Breeds

Miniature horses and ponies have a long history and a worldwide distribution. Their exact origins are obscure and they vary from country to country. But horses and ponies, bred-down through selective breeding techniques to become miniaturized horses and ponies, have been developed on every continent. Upon maturity the Miniature Horse must not exceed 34 inches, 8.2 hands or 86cm in height. If the Miniature Horse exceeds this height it is then placed in another category which is known as Small Horse, these horses must not exceed 38inches, 9.2 hands or 96.50 cm, please refer to our Breed Standard for more information. Miniature and Small Horses are shown in halter, harness classes and performance events including trail and jumping, many are simply kept as pets.

While miniature horses & ponies have the same physiology as large horses, there are some important issues that are specific to their health care. Dwarf genes can compromise these horses & ponies while carrying a foal, competing in jumping or harness and joint health.

Common recorded problems related to Miniature horses and ponies that Equissage can help with are;

  • Undesirable weight gain in the midsection
  • Muscle fatigue and dehydration
  • Decrease of expressive movement – extension and strength

Equissage is a safe, easy to use, natural, non-aggressive and non-invasive way to effectively warm up and cool down your horse, prevent common issues, improve performance and maintain your horse in peak condition.

Voted “Best New Horse Product in the World” in 2000 BETA UK, Miniature horse and pony owners world wide love how Equissage provides a full body workout, equivalent to a 10km walk for their competition horse. Equissage gently penetrates through 4 foot of bone and 2 foot of tissue to provide the following benefits to Miniature horses and ponies:

  • Increased blood flow, helps to warm up muscles before work, specifically around the joints to decrease the likelihood of injuries and promote even muscle tone
  • Improved lymphatic drainage to assist in the removal of lactic acid and inflammation, speed up recovery, reduce fatigue and encourage water consumption
  • Relaxation of the muscles, especially across the back and hindquarters, helping to unlock tension and reduce muscle spasm
  • Improved joint mobility to assist in control, balance and flexibility and increase extension
