Vaulting

In competition, Vaulters compete as individuals, pairs or pas-de-deux, and teams. Beginning vaulters will compete at the walk until they acquire the skills to perform on the horse at a canter. The vaulting horse, which has been carefully trained, moves in a 15 metre circle and is controlled by a lunger. Vaulting competitions consist of compulsory exercises and choreographed freestyle exercises done to music. There are six compulsory exercises—basic seat, flag, mill, scissors, stand, and flank, in addition to the mount and dismount. Each exercise is scored on a scale from 0 to 10. Horses also receive a score and are judged on the quality of their gait. Vaulting horses typically move on the left rein (counter clockwise), but in certain kinds of competitions the horse will canter in the other direction.

Common recorded problems related to Vaulting horses that Equissage can help with are;
  • Shortening of stride and inability to maintain small circle circumference
  • Cramp of muscles due to dehydration
  • Repetitive motion strain and sprain to muscles
  • Degeneration to lower limb joints due to repetitive force
  • Irregular muscle tone from prolonged work in side reins
  • Asymmetrical musculature due to one directional circling

With a basic understanding of equine biomechanics and physiology, the importance of muscle health is critical to performance and longevity.

Equissage is a safe, easy to use, natural, non-aggressive and non-invasive way to effectively warm up and cool down your horse, prevent common issues, improve performance and maintain your horse in peak condition.

  • Increased blood flow, specifically around the joints to decrease the likelihood of sprains and strains
  • Improved lymphatic drainage to assist in the removal of lactic acid, keeping your horse energised and willing and encouraging water consumption
