Cycloid Vibration Therapy in Horses And Small Animals

CLINICAL & CASE STUDIES

Over many years, CVT has had extensive clinical testing, focused case study reviews and medical/veterinary research on humans and animals. The following are a few of the results so you can be confident that your decision to invest in Equissage was the right choice.

Reducing Stress & Cortisol Levels

Equissage CVT Treatments reduce stress and pain in recreational and performance horses.

In 2021 the University of Adelaide conducted a field-based trial that measured cortisol levels in 24 horses before and after Equissage treatments for 20 minutes a day for 2 weeks. Cortisol was chosen as a proxy for a measurement of stress as it is directly correlated with social, transport, exercise, competition and husbandry stress and pain. Ongoing elevations in cortisol have been shown to be associated with reduction of the immune system, muscle wasting and digestive, metabolic and reproductive disorders.

Horses treated with the Equissage EDGE CVT System had statistically significantly lower cortisol levels after treatment when compared to before treatment. The average reduction for the horse group participating in the study was 14.6%.

Improved Mobility & Ease of Movement

In this group of horses, this study found that Cycloid Vibration Therapy has an immediate effect on the horse by altering thoracic range of motion, thoracolumbar musculature and pelvic symmetry. In the placebo group, who followed the same protocol excluding receiving any vibration therapy, no changes in any measured parameters were observed.

Increase Speed and Length of Stride

ThoroEdge Equine Performance Study

  • Equissage treatments prior to a half mile breeze improved post workout recovery within the first 5 minutes from 71% to 85.5%.
  • Equissage treatments prior to a gallop allowed the mare to move a tick faster for the distance, while expending less energy.
  • Equissage treatments 20 minutes before the post parade improved the Beyer figure by an average of 15 points.

ThoroEdge study

  • Improve trot speed by an average 21%
  • Increase post workout recovery time by 14.5%
  • Increase stride length by an average 13%
  • Increase hock angles by an average 9%

Clinical Trials at Writtle College, UK

Clinical trials at Writtle College in the UK proved that Equissage helped to increase horse’s length of stride by up to 13%, assisting performance across all disciplines. The study included eight horses of varying ages who were monitored for their length of stride before and after a treatment with Equissage daily over two weeks.

Therefore, because of the increased stride length, Racehorses, Polo ponies, Eventers and many other horse disciplines all perform with fewer strides and a faster time. Because of the increase in joint flexion and power, Dressage horses in particular can increase their performance and scores, as lack of impulsion and hind limb engagement is one of the most common reported faults in Dressage.

Veterinary Surgeon Dietrich Graf von Schweinitz says:

“Not only did the stride length appear to improve, but an increase in the speed of the stride (from an average of 2.6m/sec to 3.1m/sec) was also found in the study.”

“The hock joint flexion and swing phase of the stride improvements provide an increased power translating in improved performance for all disciplines.”

Other studies & Feedback

Reducing Pain & Enhancing Mobility

The Equissage units are used daily to improve the comfort and mobility. We believe that with regular use of the Equissage CVT units has been helpful in maintaining comfort and quality of life, especially in the colder months. We have also found additional uses for the equipment in reducing discomfort. Dr Simone Vitali BSc BVMS PhD MANZCVS, Perth Zoo

Improved Healing of Wounds

Using CVT to stimulate the circulation to enhance healing can significantly reduce treatment costs. Benefits include faster healing times, better quality of life and a marked reduction in pain. Journal of Wound Care vol 14, no 9

Improved Lymphatic Drainage

The core of the product CVT has local and worldwide potential in the management of existing disorders in blood, tissue and lymphatic systems. Niagara CVT has demonstrated that their equipment complies to the TGA medical devices essential principles. Professor Dr. Neil Piller, Flinders University School of Medicine
